Bar Code Scanner Never Works

Paid for the app to have the barcode and QR code scanner the same app. I have never had a successful bar code scan. Tried it at home on cereal boxes, paper towels, light buck packaging, etc.
Tried it at stores like Canadian Tire, Loblaws, Home Depot... Never identified anything.
Have not tried QR mode.
Wasted my money.
